Bert Haboucha, Atlas Capital Advisors

BIOGRAPHY:
Bert Haboucha is a Principal of Atlas Capital Advisors, a value add commercial real estate company which focuses on advisory, asset management, portfolio acquisitions and disposition work for Banks, Special Servicers, portfolio buyers, private investors, litigation firms and government agencies.  Atlas has been retained by the L.A. Superior Court to act as provisional director in corporate and partnership disputes.  Atlas advises High Net Worth clients on acquisitions, and aids in re-evaluating their real estate holdings to ensure top down synergies starting with a focused real estate investment strategy, core competencies, and strong complimentary management.  In many cases we function as in-house asset management on the real estate portfolio.  In addition, advise investors on deal specific underwriting risks on EB-5 investments, and Cannabis real estate investment and leasing.  Atlas and its investors have assisted in providing DIP financing, asset based lending, and turnaround management.

WHY I WOULD LIKE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS and/or MY VISION FOR REOMAC:

From the beginning, REOMAC has been a resource to bankers.  No banker expects their loans to go bad, but some do.  In some cases, with a few banks, very little goes bad.  For this reason, more often than not, they do not have the resources or expertise to deal with these troubled assets.  They may not even know where to begin.  Whether commercial or residential, they are looking for a resource on a host of topics like risk mitigation, foreclosure solutions, repair, maintenance and asset protection, marketing and sales. I believe that REOMAC can fill that gap nationwide by ensuring our member agents, preservation teams, note buyers and others are continually educated and a solid resource to bankers, and investors who do not know where to turn.

Mark Paniccia, TREO International

He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a BA in Political Science, a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association, and has served on the board of the REO Managers Association (REOMAC).

WHY I WOULD LIKE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS and/or MY VISION FOR REOMAC:
Throughout my career, I have successfully managed change in a variety of lending and portfolio management settings, through boom and bust, and as a result I have the ability to work with my colleagues to move organizations in the direction the market is headed. REOMAC too has always represented the best in the mortgage default industry through a variety of market cycles and conditions. I believe my presence on the board will provide new perspectives on the opportunities for our membership, and I look forward to capitalizing on those opportunities with you.

WHY I WOULD LIKE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS and/or MY VISION FOR REOMAC:

My vision for REOMAC is one that leads to the continued success of its members, with a focus on quality versus quantity.  REOMAC is unique within our industry in that it is a non-profit trade association that has been providing education and networking opportunities for over 30 years.  That we are still building upon this means a great deal to me as a seasoned industry professional and is something that continues to drive me to volunteer within REOMAC.  Times have changed over the last several years and the educational and networking opportunities available to us has changed with it.  I believe as members of this great organization, we should hold true to our basic core values to continue benefitting us and take us through the years to come.  However, REOMAC can still grow and expand to meet the ever-changing needs of all within our industry.  And with an approach that is appealing and refreshing, yet also defining the standard for high quality.  REOMAC should continue to evolve in its offerings, including higher-level education for the seasoned industry professional, education available to and networking with lenders/servicers, unique forums for sharing best practices with industry peers, member benefits tailored to each category of membership, advocacy on the issues impacting us, and providing critical feedback to those leading our country.  Our trade association will continue to contribute to the success of its individual members through the tough times just as it did during the good days.  I would like to serve you again on the REOMAC Board of Directors because I believe in, and will work for, REOMAC and this vision.  REOMAC has a solid foundation and I am passionate about getting creative to build on that foundation to elevate not only the organization, but ultimately its members.  There will certainly be challenges to overcome, as great accomplishments are never easy.  Through my continued loyalty to REOMAC, working together with other like-minded members, REOMAC will once again be the premiere membership association and recognized leader within our industry.

WHY I WOULD LIKE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS and/or MY VISION FOR REOMAC:

Simply put, I would like to be a member of the REOMAC Board because I believe in the REOMAC mission – “to advance the careers of professionals in the default industry through education, networking and teambuilding.”  REOMAC is an organization that has positioned itself to effectively carry out its mission through service to its members and the greater community.  It would be an honor to contribute to this special organization by becoming a member of the Board.

I became a member of REOMAC in 2016. Since that time, I have attended two REOMAC Annual Summits and a REOMAC Educational Dinner.  I also had the privilege of serving as a speaker on a panel at the most recent Annual Summit.  Based on my personal experience and interaction with REOMAC members, it is clear to me that the organization is genuinely committed to providing members with the tools that they need to be successful in an increasingly challenging and competitive industry.  The emphasis on education, technology, best-practices, expanding membership and creating meaningful opportunities for members to engage with industry professionals and leaders is quite impressive.

My legal background and first-hand experience in the default industry would allow me to contribute to the ongoing growth of REOMAC. Specifically, I bring an understanding of the default process and the individuals connected, directly and indirectly, to that process.  I have developed client relationships over the years, which keep me informed of the ever-changing legal, political and economic pressures facing stakeholders.  Guided by this appreciation of the default industry, I am prepared to bring knowledge, enthusiasm and a spirit of cooperation to the REOMAC Board.

I believe my experiences, relationships and perspective would positively contribute to the REOMAC Board. It is my sincere desire to play a more active role within this dynamic organization.  Becoming a member of the Board would allow me to serve as a resource to the greater REOMAC community and participate in shaping the future of REOMAC.

Kim Goodell is the Assistant Vice President - Managing Attorney at Potestivo & Associates,
P.C. She began working for Potestivo & Associates, P.C. in 2009 as a law clerk. Her focus as a clerk was on foreclosure and title litigation. Upon licensure as an attorney in 2011, Kim moved into an Associate Attorney position with the firm. Her focus was on federal debt collection including student loan debt collection and reverse mortgage foreclosures. In addition, she served, and continues to serve, as the firm's lead REO counsel for the State of Illinois. In July 2013, Kim was promoted to Supervising Attorney to oversee the firm's Illinois Foreclosure, Title and REO Departments. Kim is a licensed attorney in Illinois and Michigan. Most recently, in June 2017, Kim was promoted to Assistant Vice President- Managing Attorney at the firm. Her focus remains in the areas of Foreclosure, Title and REO. Kim reviews and handles legislative and case law updates for the state of Illinois and is focused on keeping clients and industry professionals up to date on the latest trends in the default servicing industry.

WHY I WOULD LIKE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS and/or MY VISION FOR REOMAC:

I would like to be a member of the Board of Directors of REOMAC because I feel this is a well respected, education focused organization. I am involved with several other organizations and in my opinion, REOMAC has some of the best and most thoughtful educational content in the REO and default space. When preparing for events, the organization leans on, listens to and takes into consideration, the thoughts and opinions of its members and then puts them into action. From my experiences working with the organization, I have always been treated with respect and met with great view points and suggestions from those involved with whatever event or panel we have discussed or planned. I am an active member in the default and REO community and do my best to keep up with legal trends, statutory updates and case law updates so that my knowledge and opinions are always relevant and educated. As a Managing Attorney at a multi-state law firm, I also have many contacts within the servicing and default community and will be able to help promote the organization to the servicer audience. As a member of the REOMAC Board of Directors, I would strive to bring this knowledge and connections to your educational events and would love to help further the goals of the organization.

As to my vision for REOMAC, I would like to see more periodic communications going out with legal updates and practitioner suggestions. Many of your members are agents and attorneys who could greatly benefit from legislative and case law updates on a regular basis. I do see periodic emails come through, but I would love to institute a more frequent "legal update" type blast from the organization. This would keep REOMAC fresh on the minds of its members and could help to drive attendance at organizational events. REOMAC has always been education focused, so I believe that a program like this would help to further that end. From my communication with people outside of the organization, many believe that REOMAC is only for REO practitioners. I believe that it is important to let people know that the scope of REOMAC's education goes farther than REO and that we also have education focused in all areas of the default sector. My focus would be on growth for the organization while still maintaining the same quality of education. For the aforementioned reasons, I hope that you will consider my application for the Board of Directors.

One of Skip’s many jobs as a teenager was a door-to-door canvassing lead generator for an air conditioning company.  He was picked up in the San Fernando Valley and taken to Inglewood, Watts or Compton where he knocked on doors and offered free estimates for air conditioning systems in the 100-degree sweltering heat.  Bonuses were earned for “Call-In’s”… Get into the prospects home, call the office and schedule a salesman to come out right away.  Skip got in a lot of homes and saw how many low-income families lived.  An experience that will stick with him for the rest of his life.

Skip’s family lived in 7 homes from the time he was born until he graduated from high school.  Kicked out and homeless at 18 he sofa surfed for a while and woke up one day wanting a better life.

WHY I WOULD LIKE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS and/or MY VISION FOR REOMAC:
It’s only fitting that on the 20th anniversary of my introduction to REOMAC when I was invited by Kathy Jeffers-Volk to be a guest speaker at the 1997 annual spring conference that I finally join the Board of Directors.

I have benefitted personally and professionally from my affiliation with REOMAC in ways too numerous to recount.  The friendships I’ve forged, the knowledge I’ve gained and the opportunities that were created for me these past 20 years have truly made a difference in my life and I’m ready to give back to this awesome organization.

My career path brings a unique and diverse perspective to the board.  Professional experiences include real estate broker, investor, sales person, licensed mortgage loan originator, licensed contractor, homeowner’s association board member, public speaker, author of CA state approved CE classes for Realtors, non-performing loan disposition sales manager, resource provider and educator for numerous asset management companies, Real Estate Agents and mortgage loan originators.

I am passionate about housing and committed to serving all those who support equal opportunities in areas of buying, selling and managing REO’s and distressed homes nationwide.

My vision for REOMAC is to be a catalyst and assure REOMAC remains true to the guiding principles it was founded on by providing knowledge and excellence thru education.  By doing so, we as members will benefit with lifelong meaningful relationships, growing and expanding our knowledge and creating opportunities not found elsewhere.

WHY I WOULD LIKE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS and/or MY VISION FOR REOMAC:
As a current board member, Foundation President & Chair, and once again candidate, I would ask for your vote in supporting me in continuing to be a part of a board that is setting industry standards with vision of our REOMAC future.  I have been fortunate and proud to serve with all board members these past 4 years along with the knowledge and experience I have gained in being on this board.  I have been involved with and supported REOMAC for many years prior to serving on the board. It is quite apparent that the landscape in our industry has changed greatly for us all, and we have all faced the challenges in maintaining standards, education, and a position in the REO/Default Servicing Industry.  Having been a broker in 3 states for over 30 years with much of those years in REO I too have seen the changes with the clients, the lenders, the outsourcers, and the agents in our industry both  highs and lows.  I am a strong believer in personal touch in business.  It may be a lost art, but in my 4 year term thus far, it has been immensely important to me in order to keep our membership thriving, personal touch is needed, letting our members know they are appreciated, they are welcome, and they are “REOMAC”.  We are glad you are here!  I believe in keeping standards high, continually educating, and our level of professionalism top notch.

It is my hope in seeking your support that I may be allowed to continue to be a part of this board in keeping REOMAC as a top organization with forward momentum.  I have participated in other conferences around the country over the years as many have. I am proud to say that REOMAC is the industry leader now with “30 YEARS” in the industry by professionalism, by conference value standards, and through continued education.  I am a staunch supporter of the Scholarship program, and personally have enjoyed the Scholarship Foundation Committee as a contributor, a volunteer, a Council Member, the Council Chair, and the current President of the Foundation.   I believe we can all do great things in the continued giveback, support, and help it to survive in perpetuity.

I have found that with over 20 years in REOMAC that it is our organization, our standards, the professionalism, and our members of REOMAC that keep me here.  I look forward to the opportunity to again serve on your board, and ask for your support in doing so.
